Rach: Mindy. So what’s up?

Mindy: Well I know (that) things have been weird lately but you’re like my oldest friend in the world.

        ◆ 요즘, 최근에 : Lately 완료형에 사용

                                  Recently 완료, 과거형에 사용

                                  These days, nowadays 현재에 사용 

        예문> I have been working a lot lately. 요즘 일이 너무 많아.

                 She has been better lately. 그녀는 최근에 나아지고 있다.

                  I haven’t been to class lately. 요즘 강의를 듣지 않는다.

Mindy: Will you be my maid of honor?

Rach: Of course.

Mindy: Oh, that’s so great.

Rach: Was that all you wanted to ask?

           해석: 물어본다는 게 그게 다야?

Mindy: That’s not all. I think Barry is seeing someone in this city.

        ◆ 진행형으로 쓸 수 없는 동사

        ① 감정, 지각, 소유 등의 상태동사

         : hate, like, love, want, need, know, believe, understand, belong, have

         예문> I really hate it. 싫어하는 중이다 는 한국말로도 이상하다.

                   I know that she is pretty.

        ② 동작동사로 쓰이면 진행형으로 쓰일 수 있는 것.

            You look serious. What are you thinking? 심각해보여. 무슨생각해? 

            ◆ think=consider 고려하다 (동작동사)

            Jill has tickets for the concert. 질이 콘서트 표를 가지고 있어.

            This soup tastes too salty. 너무 짜다.

        > Feel 과 Look 은 기분이 ~하다, ~게 보인다 의미로 쓰이면 현재, 진행형 아무거나 사용.

           You look well.=You’re looking well.  

Rach: Uhm, what would make you think that?

            해석: 왜 그렇게 생각하는데?
Mindy: Well, ever since we announced the engagement, he’s been acting really weird and then last night he came home smelling like Chanel. 

              해석: 약혼발표를 한 이후로 쭉 이상하게 행동하고 있는데 지난 밤엔 샤넬향수 냄새 같은 게 나더라구.

Rach: Really?

Mindy: Have you heard any weird things about Barry when he was engaged to you? He and I kind of had a little thing on the side.

             해석: 너랑 약혼했을 때 이상한 거 들은 적 없어? 그때 우리 몰래 만나고 있었거든.

Rach: What? Oh, Mindy. You are so stupid. Oh, we are both so stupid.

Mindy: What do you mean?

Rach: Smell familiar?

           해석: 냄새 익숙하지?

Mindy: Oh, no.
