47. I can’t stand ~ 못 참겠어, 못 견디겠어

A: What does this Bob guy look like?

        ◆ Look : 원래 동사는 부사를 대동하는데(~하게 ~하다) look은 형용사를 대동한다.

       

        - What : 명사 성질 What do you think of Korea? 한국에 대해 어떻게 생각해요?

        - How : 형용사 성질 How do you think of Korea? 한국을 어떤 수단으로 생각해요? 

          굳이 how를 사용하고 싶다면, 아래와 같이 사용.

          How does he look? (how는 형용사 성질이기 때문에 형용사인 like는 쓰지 않는다)

          It doesn’t matter how she looks. 그녀가 어떻게 생겼는지는 문제될 것이 없다.

          주의> 그러나 How가 내포하는 뜻은 매우 다양해서 '그녀가 다른 사람들에게 어떻게 

                   보이는지 문제될 것이 없다' 처럼 의도와는 달리 다른 의미로 이해될 수 있으므로 

                   수단, 방법일 때만 주로 HOW를 사용한다.

          비교> It doesn’t matter what she looks like. (What은 명사 성질로 뒤에 like를 사용한다.)

A: Is he tall? Short?

B: Yep.

A: Which?

B: Which what?

A: You’ve never met Bob, have you?

        ◆ Never는 부정에서 가장 강함. ‘한 번도 하지 않다’

        ◆ Never가 오는 위치

        ➀ 동사 앞 (과거, 현재 위치 같음)

             I never buy the car.

             I never bought the car.

        ➁ 동사가 여러개 나올 때는 not 이 들어가는 위치에 넣는다

             I have never bought the car, 그 차를 산 적이 없다.

             I should never have bought the car. 그 차를 사지 말았어야 했는데.

B: No. but he is…

A: Oh my God. I can’t stand this. For all we know, this guy could be horribly…(미래에 대한 가정)

        ◆ For all we know : 우리가 알고 있는 모든 것에 관해서 ➜ 알다시피

        ◆ For all I know : 나만 알고 있는 것에 관해서 ➜ 잘 모르긴해도

C: Hey Joey.

B: ...horribly attractive. I’ll be shutting up now.
