        Leave

            1) ~를 떠나다 : leave + 장소,건물

            2) ~에 남겨두다 : leave + at + 장소

            두가지 뜻이 애매할 때는 뒤에 나오는 구체적인 내용을 보고 파악을 한다.

            예문> I wanna leave you. 너를 떠나고 싶다.

                      I wanna leave you at home. 너를 집에 두고 싶어.

                      I wanna leave. 떠나고 싶다

                     When do you leave? 언제 떠나?

                     When do you leave your home? 언제 집에서 떠나?

                     Where do you leave it? 그거 어디에 뒀어?

                     I’m gonna leave you a message. 메세지 남길게요.

              ‘남기다’ 라는 뜻이 명확한 것 빼고는 at+장소를 붙인다.

              Leave it at that 은 내버려두다/그대로 두다라는 뜻의 관용구로 한꺼번에 외우자. 

              > 회사에서 이런 경우 사용할 수 있다

              A : We don’t agree.

              B : Ok. let’s leave it at that.

Y’know, if you listen closely, you can hear a thousand retailers(천 명의 소매업자) scream.

        You know 시간을 끌기 위한 말버릇 ‘있잖아’/ 앞의 문장을 설명해 줄 때

        예문> Americans are very open. You know, very friendly. 

 

        A thousand retailers 에서 a thousand 는 retailers를 꾸며주는 형용사로, 형용사는 복수로 사용하지 않는다.

        그래서 two thousands retailers (2천명의 소매업자) 라고 쓸 수 없다.

        단순히 2천이라고 쓰고 싶을 때는 two thousands 라고 ‘S’ 를 붙일 수 있다. 

        예문> Two thousand dollars 이천달러 (형용사처럼 쓰인 경우)

        그러나 thousands of retailers 수 천명의 소매업자라는 뜻으로 이때는 OF 때문에 thousand가 명사이기 때문에

        자유롭게 복수로 사용할 수 있다.

• I’m ready ~언제나 ~할 준비가 되다/곧 ~할게

1) ready for + 명사/전치사 : ~할 준비가 되다.

I’m ready for this test. 이번 시험 준비가 되어있어.

I’m ready for you.

Our team is ready for off. 우리 팀은 떠날 준비가 되어있다.

Your car is ready (for collection). (차 준비 다 됐어요) 가져가세요.

Your suit is ready (for collection). (가져갈 준비가 되다) 가져가세요.

 

2) ready to + 동사 : ~하려고 하다(어쩔 수 없이), ~할 용의가 있다.

I’m ready to face whatever. 뭐든지 맞설 준비가 되어있다.

I’m ready to order. 주문할게요.

I’m ready to go out.

I’m ready to make a deal. 거래합시다

I’m ready to give a presentation.

I’m ready to ask her out. 데이트 신청할 준비가 되어있다.

She’s ready to cry. 그녀는 울려고 한다.

I’m ready to answer your phone. 언제라도 네 전화 받을게.
