20. I'm on~

Monica. You’re scaring me.

        보통 너 무섭다 문장을 만들 때 ‘주어+be+형용사’ 의 틀을 생각하게 된다. 하지만 

        You are scary. 무섭게 생겼어/ 넌 악마야 처럼 오해의 소지가 있는 뜻으로 해석될 수 있다.

        실제 대화에서는 ‘be+ing’ 의 틀도 사용한다.

My parents are on their way.

Calm down. 진정해

        = Would you relax? / Relax / Take it easy / Easy

Ross is not nervous every time they come.

That’s because my parents think Ross can do no wrong.

        Because 는 홀로 완벽한 문장이 되지 않는다. 늘 부가적인 설명이 뒤따른다.

            예문> I wanna stay with you because I love you. 두문장이 결합해 완벽한 하나의 문장이 된다.

        That’s because 는 별개의 독립된 문장으로 설명없이 홀로 사용할 수 있다.

            예문> I wanna stay with you. That’s because I love you. 별개의 두문장

        That’s why 는 그러므로 라는 뜻을 내포하고 있으며 앞의 because 가 결과➜원인 이라면,

        이것은 원인➜결과의 구조를 보인다.

            예문> I didn’t go there because I was sick. 

                      I didn’t go there. That’s because I was sick. 결과, 원인

                      I was sick. That’s why I didn’t go there. 원인, 결과

He is the prince. Apparently(부사) they had some big ceremony before I was born.

• I’m on ~하는 중이다

on : 표면에 닿을락 말락/지속되는(continue)의 뜻으로 여기서는 후자의 뜻

 

1)  I’m on one’s way + to 장소/행위 ~ 하러 가는 중이다/오고 있는 중이다

I’m on my way to the airport.

I’m on my way to my school.

I’m on my way home(=to the house).

I’m on my way to see her.

I’m on my way to study English.

I’m on my way to go out. / I’m on my way out.

 

2) I’m on +명사 ~하는 중이다 (I’m in the middle of)

I’m on the phone to her. (I’m in the middle of calling her.)

I’m on the computer.

I’m on a diet. = I go on a diet.

I’m on a break.

 

3) I’m on + 교통편 ~를 타고 가고 있다

I’m on flight 007. 교통수단이 따르면 타다+가다의 뜻을 함께 내포함.

        * I’m on the wagon. 마차타고 있는 중이야➜마차 타고 있을 땐 술 노노➜금주중이야
